Lafayette homebuilder identified as pilot killed in a plane crash at Oakbourne Country Club has been identified as 69-year-old Gary J. Resch Jr.

Resch owned Gary J. Resch Jr. Construction Inc. and was the pilot of a single-engine Mooney M20 that crashed in the woods near the 18th fairway of the golf course.

There were no passengers on board, and no one on the ground was injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Resch was a licensed pilot for more than 40 years and had logged more than 1,000 flight hours.

He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Resch was also a volunteer with the Lafayette Airport Corp. and the Lafayette Aero Squadron.

He is survived by his wife, two children, and four grandchildren.
