Early Life and Career

Sir Keir Rodney Starmer KCB QC (born 2 September 1962) is a British politician who has served as Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition since 2020.

Born in London to working-class parents, Starmer studied law at the University of Leeds and the College of Law. He worked as a barrister for over 25 years, specialising in human rights and public law.

In 2015, Starmer was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Holborn and St Pancras and was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union by Jeremy Corbyn.

Leadership of the Labour Party

In 2020, following Corbyn's resignation, Starmer was elected Leader of the Labour Party. He is seen as a moderate and pragmatic figure within the party.

Under Starmer's leadership, Labour has pledged to tackle the climate crisis, build a stronger economy, and create a fairer society. He has also been critical of the Conservative government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Policies and Beliefs

Starmer is a social democrat who believes in the power of government to improve people's lives. He supports a mixed economy, public investment, and a strong welfare state.

Starmer is also a committed internationalist and believes in the importance of cooperation between nations. He is a strong supporter of the European Union and NATO.

Personal Life

Starmer is married to Victoria Starmer, a solicitor. They have two children.

Starmer is a keen Arsenal fan and enjoys playing tennis.
