Brian Wilson Placed Under Conservatorship

Brian Wilson Placed Under Conservatorship

Family Files New Petition

Los Angeles, CA - Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson is now under a court-ordered conservatorship, according to a judge's ruling. The family of the legendary musician filed a new petition in February 2024, seeking to establish a conservatorship for Wilson's personal and financial affairs.

The conservatorship was granted on May 10, 2024, following a hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court. The court appointed Wilson's daughter, Carnie Wilson, and his attorney, John Branca, as co-conservators.

In a statement, the Wilson family said they were "deeply saddened" to have to take this step but believe it is in Brian's best interests. They cited Wilson's recent health challenges and his history of mental health issues as factors in their decision.

The conservatorship gives Carnie Wilson and John Branca the authority to make decisions about Brian's medical care, finances, and other personal matters. The conservatorship will remain in place until a court determines that Wilson is capable of managing his own affairs.

Brian Wilson is a founding member of the Beach Boys, one of the most successful and influential bands in American history. He has written or co-written some of the band's most iconic hits, including "Surfin' USA," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," and "God Only Knows."
